Davis, later identified as her boyfriend, was seen with Navarro before he formally identified himself to officers. When officers arrived at the apartment, Navarro said he was the only person in the home, although officers saw Davis in the kitchen behind him.
A man linked to a former missing Arizona teen is facing child sex abuse charges.
Three days after Alicia Navarro walked into a Havre, Montana, police station and asked to be removed from the missing persons list, police executed a search warrant at the apartment Navarro shared with 36-year-old Edmund Davis, according to court documents filed by the prosecutor’s office. Officers seized three electronic devices from the home, including an HP Laptop, an XBox One, and a cell phone that Davis threw away.
All items were returned to the Glendale Police Department, where Navarro disappeared four years ago, for further analysis.
The Glendale Police Department was granted access to information stored on the devices in early August in an effort to uncover more details about Navarro’s disappearance from his family’s Glendale home.
More than 80 images depicting child sexual abuse and exploitation were found on the cellphone that police proved belonged to Davis.
Medical experts were called to determine the ages of the children in ten of the photographs. Most of the children depicted were under the age of 13, and two were under the age of 5.
Following Glendale’s investigation, all electronic devices were turned over to the Criminal Investigation Division’s computer forensics unit in Helena, Montana. There they found additional material regarding sexualized children and young children.
Davis is currently being held in the Hill County Detention Center in Havre on $1 million bail following his arrest Monday afternoon.
Davis’ first count of child sexual abuse was knowingly possessing electronic images of a child or children 12 years of age or younger engaged in sexual intercourse.
This charge carries a sentence of 100 years in prison, 25 of which cannot be suspended or postponed. The second charge of child abuse carries a prison sentence of four years to life in prison.
How is Alicia Navarro’s family now?
It’s unclear whether Alicia or her family have been reunited, but her mother, Jessica Nuñez, officially asked the public to move on in a Facebook video in July following news that Alicia had been found.
Alicia and her family kept in touch via video calls, USA Today previously reported.
“This is not a movie; This is our life. This is my daughter. I love her more than anything in the world, and I think I’ve shown you that. My job was always to protect him. Just as I never gave up on him before, I won’t be able to stand his treatment now either. There is an ongoing investigation and I implore you to continue,” Nuñez said.
Nuñez also thanked the public for the support the family has received since her daughter’s disappearance four years ago.
“I would never have been able to continue without your love, help and good wishes. “I can’t even put into words how grateful I am to all of you,” he said in the video.
‘I’ll light a candle for you’
At a news conference held by the Glendale Police Department on July 26, officers on the case reported that Alicia was found safe, healthy and happy.
“Alicia seems to be in good spirits across the board. She really wants to move on with her life. She’s very sorry for what she put her mother through. And she understands that she caused her mother a lot of pain and that it wasn’t intentional on her part, and she’s hopeful that they can build a relationship,” according to an officer with the department.
There was a note left by Alicia to her mother on the fourth anniversary that read: “I ran away. I’ll be back, I swear. Sorry,” Nuñez wrote on Facebook, writing about how different this September was from previous years.
“The media is distributing flyers and it is unknown whether he is alive or his whereabouts have been discovered. I focus on the positive that he is alive! “The miracle that he is alive is on my mind today.”
A week later, on Alicia’s birthday, her mother wrote to wish her daughter a happy birthday.
“I know this message will be seen and I just want to say that I love you and will always be here. I remember today, I gave birth to a special baby that I love with all my heart and will always love. We have been connected to each other for 5 years. I will light a candle for you on your birthdays, which I wholeheartedly celebrate as I always do.
