Who is Matthew Antonio Zakrzewski?
The 34-year-old, who was convicted in October of 30 offences, including obscene and lascivious displays with minors, also had to deal with penalties for revealing child sexual abuse material from a young man.
At Friday’s resentencing hearing, Zakrzewski delivered a statement to the court that was unrepentant. He expressed pride in possibly bringing happiness to the children he truly focused on, regardless of the seriousness of his wrongdoings. As he spoke, relatives of the injured were apparently worried, covering their ears and shedding tears.
Zakrzewski’s arrest in May 2019 followed a report from a couple to Laguna Oceanside police alleging he had inappropriate communication with their children. Ongoing investigations revealed additional casualties and led to the recording of 34 criminal allegations against Zakrzewski, aged between two and 12. A jury later found him responsible for everything.
Attorney General Todd Spitzer described the case as a frightening betrayal by a guard, underscoring the unimaginable fear the young men experienced. Zakrzewski, a Costa Plateau resident, had introduced herself as a babysitter and also a purveyor of good-time “friendship” mentality for the children she shared with her.
The harrowing insight into Zakrzewski’s activities and the critical prison sentence highlight the seriousness of the charges and their lasting impact on the individuals involved, their families and the local area at large.
