The Las Vegas Raiders have officially cut ties with Josh McDaniels and David Ziegler. The team announced late Tuesday night that general manager Ziegler and head coach McDaniels will be leaving.

This selection was made in response to the team’s dismal 3-5 season record. Just a day later, the Detroit Lions defeated the team 26-14.

The Raiders became the first team in the league to part ways with their coach this season. The team’s current linebackers coach, Antonio Pierce, is expected to take over as the team’s interim coach, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This week, as the Raiders prepare for their matchup with the New York Giants on Sunday, Pierce, who resigned as an assistant at Arizona State amid the NCAA investigation, will be on the job. Pierce has nine seasons of NFL experience, five of which were with the Giants, where he was a part of the 2007 championship team.

Who is Josh McDaniels?

Josh McDaniels was the head coach of the NFL team Las Vegas Raiders. However, after a dismal start to the Raiders’ season, his tenure ended on October 31, 2023.

During his tenure as the New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator, McDaniels rose to significant prominence and helped create one of the most prosperous NFL dynasties in history. He was a key member of the coaching staff in each of the Patriots’ six championships under Brady and Belichick.

In addition, McDaniels managed the Denver Broncos as head coach from 2009 to 2010 and led the St. Louis team in 2011. He joined the St. Louis Rams as offensive coordinator. Although he was named head coach of the Raiders in 2022, he did not spend much time there.

Even after recently leaving the team, McDaniels is still considered one of the NFL’s smartest offensive minds. His creative playing ability and ability to develop point guards have earned him praise.
