It was revealed that fugitive Pedro Argote, who allegedly shot and killed the Maryland judge who gave custody of his four children to his wife, died more than a week after the incident.

Argote’s body was found around 11 a.m. in a heavily wooded area between Clear Spring and Bottom roads in the Williamsport area, according to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

That location is about a mile from where Argote left his 2009 Mercedes GL450 following the fatal shooting, as stated in the press release. However, authorities did not reveal the exact cause of his death.

The incident began when Maryland Circuit Court Judge Andrew Wilkinson granted Argote a divorce to his wife and full custody of their four children after hearing disturbing accounts of abuse. During court proceedings, his wife detailed incidents of abuse, including an incident in which he reportedly stuffed a towel into their crying baby’s mouth.

Argote, 49, did not attend the hearing and was subsequently banned from contacting his children or visiting the family home.
