A 22-year-old BMW driver was involved in the incident that resulted in the deaths of four Pepperdine University students in Malibu last week. The man, identified as Fraser Bohm, was charged with four counts of murder. The bail amount set by authorities is $4 million.
Following his arrest the previous day, Bohm pleaded not guilty to all charges at a hearing on Wednesday.
Who is Fraser Bohm?
Fraser Bohm is 22 years old. In addition to the murder charges, he is also charged with four counts of aggravated vehicular manslaughter, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced.
Before last week’s fatal crash on the Pacific Coast Highway, Bohm was trying to escape from someone who was pursuing him angrily, he told the court Wednesday. According to investigators, Bohm was speeding at the time, which caused him to lose control of his car and crash into multiple parked vehicles, tragically killing four people.
Gascón explained at an afternoon press conference that Bohm was allegedly speeding at an incredible 104 mph in a 45 mph zone when the incident occurred. According to Gascón, “When he lost control of his BMW, he allegedly crashed into a parked car and then hit four pedestrians standing side by side on the roadside.”
The District Attorney stated that Bohm knew that his conduct would seriously endanger human life. This was the result of the investigation. In this case, four charges of culpable homicide were leveled against him for his alleged deliberate disregard for human safety. Bohm was initially released after the crash so investigators could gather more evidence, according to authorities. It appeared that he was detained once again on Tuesday. His bail was reduced from $8 million to $4 million on Wednesday.
The victims included 20-year-old Niamh Rolston, 21-year-old Peyton Stewart, 21-year-old Asha Weir and 21-year-old Deslyn Williams. They were all seniors at Pepperdine’s Seaver College of Liberal Arts and members of the same sorority.
